Ultimate Member - Private Messages

This plugin gives members a way to communicate privately within your site, so conversations can take place alongside profiles and community activity. A message button on user profiles lets members start a conversation, while a dedicated messages tab provides a place to read and reply to threads. Conversations refresh automatically, and users can add emoticons to their messages.

Site administrators can set role permissions for sending and receiving messages, limit how many new conversations a role can start within a timeframe, and set a maximum reply length. Members can choose whether to receive messages, manage email alerts, and block or unblock other members. Follower-based messaging can also limit who is able to contact a member.
