Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data GPL 247 collects, why we use it, who we share it with, and your rights. It covers this website, your account and the GPL 247 Updater.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run your account, take payment, deliver downloads and updates, and keep the store secure.
- Card details go straight to our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
- We don’t sell your data.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time.
Who we are
Who is responsible for my data?
GPL 247 is the controller of your personal data for this website. You can contact us about privacy through our contact page.
What we collect
What do you collect when I open an account or buy?
Your name, email address and password (which is stored encrypted), your billing address, and your company name and tax number if you give them. We also keep a record of what you bought, when, how much you paid and the payment status.
Do you see my card details?
No. Payments are handled by our payment providers, who collect your card or account details directly. We only see limited details, such as the card type and its last four digits.
What do you record about downloads and updates?
When you download, we record the product, the time and your IP address, so we can show your download history and apply daily limits. When you connect the GPL 247 Updater to a site, it sends us that site’s address and the products and versions on it that we can update.
What else do you collect?
Like most websites, our server records technical details such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit, along with logins to your account. We use these to keep the store working and secure. We also keep any messages you send us.
How we use it
Why do you use my data?
Where the law asks us to give a legal basis, such as for customers in the UK or EU, it’s shown in each case.
- To provide what you bought: your account, plan, downloads, updates and the emails about them. This is needed for our contract with you.
- To take payment and keep records we must keep for tax and accounting. This is a legal obligation.
- To keep the store secure and fair: preventing fraud and abuse and applying download limits. This is in our legitimate interests.
- To send news and offers, only if you’ve agreed. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Do you make automated decisions about me?
Some checks are automatic, such as daily download limits, which can pause downloads until they reset. Any decision to suspend or close an account is made by us, not by an automatic system.
Who we share it with
Who do you share my data with?
Only with the companies that help us run the store, and only what they need:
- our payment providers, shown at checkout,
- our hosting provider,
- our catalogue and file-delivery provider, which supplies the products and their updates. If a download is delivered straight from its servers, it receives your IP address and that request,
- our email delivery provider,
- professional advisers, such as accountants, when needed,
- the police or other authorities, if the law requires it.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell your personal information, or share it for other companies’ advertising, including as those terms are used in California law.
Where is my data processed?
We’re based in the United States, and your data is processed there and in other countries where our providers work. If you’re in the UK or EU, we protect transfers with approved safeguards, such as the standard contract terms approved for that purpose.
Cookies
Which cookies do you use?
We use essential cookies that keep you logged in, remember your cart, run checkout and protect the site. Our payment providers may also set cookies at checkout to prevent fraud. The site doesn’t work properly without these, so they don’t need your consent.
Do you use analytics or marketing cookies?
If we use any cookies that aren’t essential, such as for analytics, we’ll ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time.
Keeping your data
How long do you keep my data?
- Your account: while it’s open. If you ask us to delete it, we do, apart from what we must keep by law.
- Orders and invoices: up to 7 years, as tax and accounting laws require.
- Download, update and security logs: usually no more than 12 months.
- Messages: up to 2 years after your question is sorted out.
How do you protect it?
The whole site uses HTTPS, passwords are stored encrypted, and only people who need your data to help you can see it.
Your rights
What are my rights?
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we have and give you a copy,
- correct anything that’s wrong,
- delete your data,
- stop using it for marketing.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights. If you’re in the UK or EU, you can also ask us to limit how we use your data, object to some uses, or send it to another company in a common format. If you’re in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, correct and delete your data, and we won’t treat you differently for using these rights. These requests are free, and we’ll reply within 30 days.
How do I delete my account?
Contact us from the email address on your account. We’ll delete or anonymise your data, apart from the order records we must keep for tax.
How do I complain?
Please tell us first, so we can try to put it right. If you’re in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK. In the US, you can contact your state attorney general.
Is GPL 247 for children?
No. Our store is for people aged 18 and over, and we don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13 or anyone under 18. If you think a child has given us data, tell us and we’ll delete it.
Can this policy change?
Yes. We’ll update the date at the top of this page, and if a change affects you significantly, we’ll tell you by email.
