UsersWP - Private Messaging

This plugin adds private messaging to WordPress communities, giving logged-in members a way to start one-to-one conversations. Members can access messaging through a button on user directories and profile pages, or from the messaging sidebar. A Messages tab in user profiles displays recent conversations, helping members return to ongoing chats.

Site owners can set message length limits, filter specified words, and choose the colors and visual elements of the message box. Users can also set who is allowed to contact them, with options for everybody, nobody, friends, or followers. Blocking controls and customizable email alerts for unread messages give communities additional ways to manage conversations.
