Overview
Duplicator Pro creates backups of WordPress files and databases, giving site owners a copy to restore if they need to recover a site. Backups can be scheduled, and the plugin can store them on external cloud or server destinations. This suits site owners and web professionals who want a repeatable way to protect site data.
For site moves, cloning, and recovery, the plugin provides a migration wizard and tools to import backups from remote locations. Search and replace can update URLs or file paths during a move. Duplicator Pro also supports multisite networks, shared databases, and converting subsites to standalone sites or the reverse.
Features
- Full site backups: Create backups that include WordPress files and databases, keeping a copy of the site available for recovery or transfer.
- Scheduled backups: Set backups to run on a recurring schedule, including daily, weekly, monthly, or hourly intervals.
- Remote backup storage: Save backup files to cloud services or server destinations, with AES-256 encryption for stored backups.
- Restore and recovery points: Restore a site to an earlier state using a recovery point, including after an error or problematic update.
- Migration and cloning: Use the migration wizard to move or clone a WordPress site, with an installer that handles the transfer process.
- Search and replace: Update URLs, file paths, or other data during migration so site references match the new location.
- Multisite and shared databases: Back up and migrate multisite networks, convert subsites to standalone sites or back, and work with sites using shared databases.
Best for
- WordPress site owners planning regular backups
- Developers moving or cloning WordPress sites
- Agencies managing multisite networks
Changelog
Version 5.1.0 — 27 October 2026
- New Incremental Backups: after one full baseline, hourly backups store only the files and database tables that changed, off-site in Duplicator Cloud, with far less server load and restores to any point in the chain.
- Improved Database exports are now saved one file per table and can resume from where they stopped, making Backups of large databases more reliable.
- Improved Backups requested by other plugins now show the requesting plugin and its reason in the Activity Log and on the Backup details page.
- Improved The path filters tooltip now states that the listed files and folders are excluded from the Backup.
- Improved Minimum supported WordPress version raised to 6.2, and improved compatibility with PHP 8.5.
- Improved The default Activity Log retention is now 3 months.
- Fixed Backups: Fixed safety Backups requested by other plugins applying the default template’s exclusions and being refused for harmless warnings.
- Fixed Backups: Fixed the missing Activity Log link for Backups that failed or were cancelled before the build started.
- Fixed Base: Fixed settings and license activation being lost after a reload when stored plugin data was unreadable.
- Fixed Base: Hardened the Tools log pages, restricting log clearing to users who can manage settings.
- Fixed Base: Fixed a security issue in the settings import that could create unexpected objects from a crafted file.
- Fixed Base: Updated bundled JavaScript libraries to address security advisories.
- Fixed Migration: Fixed a security issue in database restore where crafted stored values could alter the installer’s queries (Installer).
- Fixed Migration: Installer entry points now run only inside a valid Backup package, and installer templates block direct access (Installer).
- Fixed Migration: Fixed a malware scanner false positive on an installer database file (Installer).
- Fixed Storage: Fixed failed OAuth token refreshes being silently treated as successful.
- New Backups: New Incremental Backups with Duplicator Cloud: after one full baseline, each hourly run stores only the files and database tables that changed, with per-snapshot change details, per-table and per-path watch/exclude rules, a “keep last N backups” retention setting, local snapshot downloads and restore to any point in the chain. Runs are skipped automatically when nothing changed or the cloud storage is full, and the feature is included in the Pro, Elite and Enterprise plans.
- Fixed Backups: Fixed fixes from an earlier Backup appearing in the Activity Log after a manual storage transfer or a WP-CLI build.
- Fixed Base: Fixed the license staying inactive after the Lite to Pro one-click upgrade.
