How to install a plugin or theme
Everything you download from us is a ZIP file that you upload in your WordPress dashboard, the same way for every plugin and theme. It takes a minute.
Before you start
- The product’s ZIP file, downloaded from its page in the store or from My Account → Downloads. Keep it zipped.
- A WordPress site where you can log in as an administrator.
- Any plugin the product needs, such as Elementor or WooCommerce, installed and active.
Install a plugin
- Open Add Plugin
In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins › Add Plugin. - Upload the ZIP file
Click Upload Plugin at the top, then choose the ZIP file. - Install it
Click Install Now and wait while WordPress unpacks it. - Activate it
Click Activate Plugin. If the plugin has settings, its own menu appears in the dashboard.
Install a theme
- Open Add Theme
Go to Appearance › Themes and click Add Theme at the top. - Upload the ZIP file
Click Upload Theme, then choose the ZIP file. - Install it
Click Install Now. - Activate it
Click Activate. Some themes then suggest plugins to install. Follow the theme’s steps to add them.
To install a newer version of a product you already have, upload it the same way. WordPress shows both versions. Click Replace current with uploaded (for a theme, Replace installed with uploaded), and your settings stay as they are. You can also let our updater do this for you.
If something goes wrong
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
The ZIP file holds more than the plugin, often its documentation and a second ZIP file. Unzip it on your computer, find the ZIP file inside it that has the product’s name, and upload that one. WordPress also shows this message when a theme is uploaded as a plugin. Upload themes under Appearance › Themes instead.
“The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”
The ZIP file is not the theme itself. Either the theme is inside it as a second ZIP file, or the file is a plugin. Unzip it on your computer and upload the theme’s own ZIP file. A plugin goes under Plugins › Add Plugin.
“The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.”
The file is bigger than your site accepts. Ask your hosting company to raise the upload limit, or unzip the file and copy its folder into wp-content/plugins (wp-content/themes for a theme) with your host’s file manager or FTP, then activate it in the dashboard.
“The link you followed has expired.”
WordPress shows this when an upload is too big or too slow for your server. The fix is the same as for a file that is too big. Ask your host to raise the upload limit, or copy the folder with the file manager or FTP.
“Destination folder already exists.”
The product is already on your site. Upload it again and choose Replace current with uploaded when WordPress offers it, or let our updater install new versions for you.
The product asks for a licence key
You can leave it empty, because the product works without it. Only features that run on the developer’s own servers need the developer’s licence. Updates come from our updater.
